Working Group presentation

The France-BioImaging training mission is focused on developing and providing bioimaging education. Its core activities include creating modular, reusable training content, structured through a three-level knowledge system. The mission aims to deliver training in person, synchronous remote, and asynchronous e-learning formats, with a current emphasis on producing introductory MOOCs.

A key objective is to establish a content management system (CMS) for these resources. The mission also involves defining content standards, addressing licensing, and actively collaborating with national and international partners to broaden impact.

Ultimately, the goal is to create a sustainable and widely accessible training program in bioimaging for users and platform staff.

Main objectives of the training mission

  • To develop modular and granular training content that is reusable and adaptable to different learning needs and formats. This involves breaking down complex knowledge into smaller, easily understandable units.
  • To structure and organize bioimaging knowledge in a hierarchical manner, currently using a three-level system (field, topic, transferable knowledge), to serve as a blueprint for training development. The aim is to create a knowledge book.
  • To provide training resources for a wide range of users, including end-users of the FBI infrastructure and platform staff. This aims to improve their skills and facilitate knowledge transfer.
  • To ensure the quality and consistency of training materials by developing guidelines for content creation, including a common graphic charter and addressing issues related to intellectual property and licensing (favoring Creative Commons with attribution).
  • To foster collaboration and partnerships with national and international training initiatives and networks to leverage expertise and resources.
  • To organize workshops and meetings to facilitate the development of training materials, share best practices in content production, and build a community of practice.
  • To consider and implement methods for assessing the acquisition of knowledge in different training formats.
  • To establish English as the default language for training content while exploring possibilities for translation into other languages.
  • To explore and utilize appropriate platforms like FunMOOC for hosting and delivering MOOCs.
  • To continuously improve the training program based on feedback and experience.
  • To valorize the work done within the mission, potentially through publications.

Join the working group

You can join the working group, through several ways:

  • Express your interest to current members: The working group recruits new contributors, sometimes through co-optation. If you know someone in the group, you can let them know you are interested. Current members are invited to propose names of people from their network who have shown interest in the project.
  • Commit to contributing to the project: The working group is open to the wider community, provided that individuals who wish to join commit to the production of training materials for a period of one to two years.
  • Attend meetings and get involved: While the in-person meetings are primarily dedicated to the production of deliverables rather than training, showing interest and participating in discussions could lead to becoming a more integrated member.
