(Confocal)
This image of a live inflorescence of Arabidopsis thaliana was taken with a confocal microscope. It shows you flower buds developing at the tip of the stem. Green fluorescence marks the cells that express APETALA3, a gene required for the formation of petals and stamens. Cell walls have been stained with propidium iodide (purple).
I use live confocal imaging to understand the mechanisms underlying the development of the flower, and how different plant genes and hormones contribute to this process.
